Solène Anglaret

Biography

Solène is a world-traveled storyteller. She was only 18 when she moved abroad for the first time. Since then, she has lived in six different countries (France, Norway, the United States, the United Kingdom, China and now Australia) and traveled to nearly 50.

This life beyond borders is what inspired her to write her first book Where to Next? a raw and honest memoir about travelling and living abroad underpinned by a reflection on where or what 'home' actually is. Keen to spread her message of acceptance, tolerance and peace further and wider, Solène has just released a second book, Where are you from? a children's story which touches on the topics of multiculturalism, identity and diversity.

Solène Anglaret was a little girl with big dreams. As she got older, they got bigger. And so appeared an odd feeling that she didn’t quite belong where she was born. There had to be more to the world than the little town she was growing up in. Determined to find out, she was only 18 years old when she left the place she’d called home thus far. Her first stop was Norway, where she both studied and worked for a year.

This extraordinary experience taught her countless life lessons and left her longing for more exploring and discoveries. She fell in love with the place and began to wonder whether it could be the ‘home’ she was looking for. That quest for where or what ‘home’ is never left her as she then went on to live in the United States, the United Kingdom and China. There, she worked for two large multinational companies and turned out to be a talented, driven and ambitious businesswoman.

As time passed, she kept rising up the ranks. Each of her jobs was exciting at first but it took her very little time to figure out what they were about and start dreaming of new horizons instead. Having moved to Australia for love in October 2017, she finally decided to combine her passions for storytelling and living abroad. That is what brought her to launch her blog and to write her first two books Where to Next? and Where Are You From? all underpinned by the concept of living beyond borders and everything that comes with it. Doing so, she hopes that her stories and those of other world citizens will inspire more people to step out of their comfort zone and utlimately to help spread a message of tolerance, acceptance and peace

What is your story, Solène?

Prior to focusing on my passion for writing, I spent seven years working in the corporate world. I started in in the water and waste industry which was most definitely not for me!

After a couple of years, I joined the tourism industry which was amazing! I had the opportunity to travel for work and learnt a lot along the way. I had to quit my job in China in order to move to Australia and join my partner 'Down Under'. Doing so made me reflect and wonder... what do I really want?

That's when I decided to give myeslf a year to follow my dreams! In that time, I wrote and self-published a couple of books which I am now doing my best to market and sell. I am finding this stage quite challenging so when I hit a roadblock, I take a break and write a bit of poetry. I would absolutely love to be able to publish a collection of poems soon but I find the idea pretty intimidating!

I love to connect with other writers so feel free to reach out!
